CAD/CAM

Learn More About CAD/CAM Technology:

Alongside digital x-rays, our practice fully incorporates the use of CAD/CAM technology to produce your restorations and give you the smile makeover you deserve. CAD/CAM, an acronym for computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing, allows us to fabricate your restorations right here in our office and construct your teeth to provide you with a fully restored smile. So, how does CAD/CAM technology work, and why are many dentists adopting the use of this technology today? We believe that it can benefits patients and professionals in improving dental care and help people have more access to treatment.

Understanding CAD/CAM Technology: At A Glance

The technology we use consists of a specialized software, where we incorporate the use of digital x-rays to first diagnose conditions that may potentially need restorations. With the help of this technology, dentists can fabricate crowns, bridges, dentures, inlays, onlays, and veneers through this software.

As part of a dental restoration visit with us we’ll provide you with a precise and beautiful restoration that will last for years to come. Here’s what to expect when you get a restoration procedure through our practice at South Hill Comprehensive Dentistry:

    • Preparing Your Teeth: During the preparation stages, we will work to remove any decay present to the teeth and other procedures involved in the restoration.

    • Intraoral Scans: Once completed, an intraoral scan will be used to identify the tooth spaces that require restoration. These scanners will transfer information to our software to be uploaded and prepare for the design process of your restoration.

    • Restoration Design: During this session, we will provide you with an insight into what your restoration will be like, how it will look once placed, and inform you on the ways to care for your restoration once cemented.

    • Fabrication and Polish: After approval of the design, the design will then be fabricated with a milling machine, using materials such as ceramic to form your restoration. Once completed, the restoration will be stained and glazed with polish to finish the restoration.

    • Restorative Procedure: After it’s fabricated, your next appointment will consist of our dentists performing a restorative procedure where your restoration will be cemented and installed into your mouth to complete your smile.
