Learn More About Xeomin:
Xeomin, like Dysport and Botox, contains botulinum toxin type A. This treatment is used to treat lines in the brow, frown lines, and other wrinkles that may be troubling you. The underlying mechanism of all these treatments is the same. The toxin blocks the signals to the muscles and nerves. Blocking these signals results in relaxation in the muscles that cause the wrinkles to smooth out. The difference with Xeomin is its lack of additives. Botox contains an inactive protein, while Xeomin further purifies the active ingredient. This purification is accomplished by removing the proteins that do not affect the drug’s function.
Benefits of Xeomin:
You may be wondering if there’s an actual difference in these injectable treatments. The overall effect of the two options remains the same. Both of them attach to identical receptors to cause their result, but that’s where the similarities end. The primary benefit of using Xeomin is a lack of unnecessary proteins that can cause an allergic reaction in some patients. Other benefits of using this treatment include:
- The wrinkles appearing near the eyes, between the brows, around the mouth, and the forehead are smoothed.
- Muscles relax after the toxin blocks the signals in the nerves from getting to the muscle, preventing wrinkling from recurring.
- Rapid recovery time and a short treatment time with almost immediate results.
The purity of Xeomin has earned it the nickname “naked Botox.” Removing those unnecessary proteins does more than avoid allergic reactions. Studies show that it also takes longer for the body to build up a resistance to this treatment. The additional proteins in Botox make desensitization happen more rapidly. It’s possible, based on these studies, that some patients may not experience desensitization at all.
How to Prepare For a Xeomin Treatment:
Ensure that your appointment is scheduled for a period that is clear of events for at least two weeks. You’ll also want to cease any treatments that involve retinol for two days before and after the treatment. This restriction means a total of five days without these treatments.
The treatment itself is quick and easy, taking no more than 10 minutes. It begins with a mild topical anesthetic that eliminates any discomfort. Some patients still report feeling a slight ‘pinching’ from the needle, even with the anesthetic. The exact number of injections you require will vary depending on how large an area is being treated. Remember to keep your hands away from your face for a few hours after the injections. You will also need to avoid vigorous activity and lying down to ensure the injectable stays at the intended locations.
While most patients can return to everyday activities immediately, there are some known potential side effects. Eyelid drooping, visual impairment, dry mouth, dry eyes, pain at the injection site, neck pain, and muscle weakness are all known to occur.
